Left Publix? What Happens to Passport, Pay and Stock
What former associates can still get, who to contact for W-2s, stock and the PROFIT Plan, and how to prove employment after you leave.
The short answer
Passport access is tied to your job, so it usually ends when you leave Publix. What you still need moves elsewhere: your W-2 comes by mail, stock and PROFIT Plan accounts stay with Publix’s Stockholder Services and Retirement Department, and job or wage checks go through Thomas & Company.
Do the downloads before your last day. Afterward is much harder.
What happens to each thing after you leave
| Item | After you leave | Where to go |
|---|---|---|
| Passport login | Usually ends with your job | Download what you need first |
| Pay stubs | Not reachable once access ends | Save PDFs before your last day |
| W-2 | Mailed to your address on file by January 31 | W-2 guide |
| PROFIT Plan and 401(k) SMART Plan | Your account stays. Distributions follow Publix’s calendar | Retirement Department |
| Publix stock you bought | Stays in your stock account | Stockholder Services, Publix Stockholder Online |
| Health coverage | Ends under the plan’s rules. COBRA may let you keep it | Your COBRA notice |
| Proof of employment or wages | Handled by Publix’s verification vendor | Thomas & Company |
Before your last day: the checklist
- Download your recent pay stubs as PDFs.
- Open My Documents in Passport and save your tax forms and your Retirement Benefits Summary (Publix puts it under the Retirement tab).
- Confirm your mailing address in Passport so your W-2 reaches you.
- Update your address, phone and bank details with Stockholder Services too. Passport changes don’t carry over.
- Register for Publix Stockholder Online if you haven’t, while you can still prove who you are easily.
- Write down your 8-digit personnel number. Wage verification asks for it.
From the manager’s desk
The piece I wish someone had flagged earlier: updating my address in Passport did nothing for my stock records. Stockholder Services keeps its own file, and one missed dividend check went to an old apartment before I caught it.
Register for Publix Stockholder Online before your last day, not after. Proving who you are without an active associate account is a much longer road.
Proof of employment and wage verification
Landlords, lenders and new employers often ask to confirm where you worked. Publix handles this through Thomas & Company.
| What you need | Detail |
|---|---|
| Publix company code | PUBLIX83 |
| Your personnel number | 8 digits, including leading zeros |
| For wage checks | You create a PIN in Employee Access and give it, with your Social Security number, to the verifier |
| Thomas & Company phone | (615) 620-0569 or (800) 791-8943 |
| [email protected] |
Publix’s page also offers a handout you can give the company that asked for verification.
Your PROFIT Plan, 401(k) and stock
Leaving Publix doesn’t empty these accounts. Two teams handle them.
| Team | Handles | Contact |
|---|---|---|
| Retirement Department | PROFIT Plan and 401(k) SMART Plan accounts, including distributions | (863) 688-7407 ext. 52327, or 1-800-741-4332 outside Lakeland |
| Stockholder Services | Stock you bought, dividends, selling shares, address changes | (863) 688-7407 ext. 52323, or 1-800-741-4332 outside Lakeland |
Both answer Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Eastern. Mail goes to P.O. Box 32040, Lakeland, FL 33802-2040, with the department name on the envelope.
On Publix Stockholder Online you can view balances, dividends and tax documents, set up dividend direct deposit and change your mailing address. PROFIT Plan distributions follow a published calendar with paperwork deadlines and closed periods.
Distribution choices have tax effects that depend on your situation. Talk to the Retirement Department and a tax professional before you decide.
Health coverage after you leave
Federal COBRA rules let many workers and their families keep group health coverage for a limited time after a job ends, usually 18 months after leaving a job. You pay the full premium plus up to a 2% fee. The plan sends an election notice, and you get at least 60 days to choose (US Department of Labor).
Watch your mail in the weeks after your last day and keep the notice.
Retiring? Plan for the slow parts
From the manager’s desk
Six months before my last day, nobody warned me how many separate doors were about to close. Passport access went first: quick, quiet and exactly as expected, which is why downloading my pay stubs as PDFs a month early mattered so much.
The PROFIT Plan was the slow part: distribution paperwork, deadlines from the retirement calendar, and decisions about shares versus cash that I took to a tax professional before signing anything.
The homepage has the full leaving and retiring checklist.

Usually not. Access is tied to active employment, so save what you need before your last day.

It’s mailed to your address on file by January 31. If it doesn’t arrive, contact your former store, then the IRS after the end of February.
How do I get old Publix pay stubs?

What happens to my Publix stock when I leave?
It stays in your account. Contact Stockholder Services about dividends, address changes or selling shares.

The Publix Retirement Department, at (863) 688-7407 ext. 52327 or 1-800-741-4332.
